LACEY, WA, August 31, 2012: Bring the whole family to the Lacey Community Market for PET DAY on Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Huntamer Park. This traditional open air market, hosted by the City of Lacey, offers a unique mix of vendors, interactive displays, community resource information, free concerts, and endless family entertainment—all in a pet-friendly atmosphere.
Special PET DAY activities include a K-9 Demonstration, face painting, crafts, and the main event—a Pet Look-alike Contest at 12:00 p.m. Contestants may bring leashed pets to the stage at 12 noon— no entry fee or pre-registration necessary. Prizes will be awarded for “Best Natural Look-alike” and “Best Costume Look-alike.” New this year is the Good Dog Fun Run, hosted by Lacey Parks and Recreation.
The 5K or 1 mile race begins at 9:00 a.m. near Huntamer Park. Pets are encouraged! To register, visit www.ontherunevents.com/GoodDog.
Fee-paid services will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., including pet licensing sponsored by Thurston County Animal Services and a microchip clinic hosted by Hawks Prairie Veterinary Hospital for safe and secure pet identification.
Visitors to the market will also enjoy two free concerts featuring banjo favorites by the Grays Harbor Banjo Band from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and bluegrass music from Cricket on the Hearth, on stage from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Volunteers from the Thurston County Food Bank will accept donations of fruits and vegetables—excess harvests from local backyard gardens—and other non-perishable food items. This special collection site will be located on the corner of 7th Avenue SE and Woodland Square Loop during market hours.
Crafters, collectibles, music, food, and entertainment—the bustle of a street fair, the charm of a concert in the park—you’ll find it all at the Lacey Community Market. Located at beautiful Huntamer Park, just off College Street SE at 7th Avenue SE in Lacey. For more information, visit www.ci.lacey.wa.us/market or call Sharon Kagy, market manager, at (360) 791-7632.
