Spidermonkey Tattoos, the longest-running tattoo shop in Thurston County under original ownership, is proud to mark its 25th anniversary with a public celebration on Sunday, August 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. at its downtown Olympia location.

The event will feature a special art show highlighting large-scale backpiece tattoo art created by current Spidermonkey artists and special guests. The show offers a rare opportunity to view the artistry and detail of expansive tattoo work in a gallery-style setting. The celebration is free and open to the public, with refreshments provided.

Since opening in 2000, Spidermonkey Tattoos has been a fixture in Olympia’s creative and counterculture scenes, known for its commitment to quality work, ethical practice, and a welcoming environment. Over the years, the shop has served thousands of clients and supported generations of tattoo artists.

“This anniversary isn’t just about celebrating our own achievements, it’s about recognizing how many people helped us get here,” said Bryan Childs, founder and co-owner of Spidermonkey Tattoos. “Everyone who’s ever worked at Spidermonkey, every customer who’s trusted us to put art on their body, the City, and all the businesses that breathe life into downtown—we feel connected to all of it. Olympia is a weird and wonderful place, with more culture and community than most small cities.

“My wife, our artists, and I have felt supported and accepted since the day we opened. This is our town, and we want to say thank you. We love tattooing, and we love Olympia.

“When we chose this spot to start Spidermonkey back in 2000, we weren’t thinking about where we’d be in 25 years. In that time Olympia has changed a lot, and so has tattooing. But who knows, I can see us being here another 25.”
