Thurston County’s Regional Stream Team Program is seeking volunteers to help with the removal of scotch broom from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, July 23rd, at a facility located at 4040 Marvin Road NE in Lacey.
No experience is necessary and all ages are welcome to join. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian to participate. Waivers can be found on the Stream Team’s website and will be available the day of the event. All tools and various sizes of gloves are provided, along with snacks and water.
Scotch broom is an invasive plant in Washington State and forms dense thickets of bushes. The plant produces seeds that are able to last in soils for decades, making it difficult to completely remove.
Stream Team offers various educational and volunteer opportunities around Thurston County throughout the year. Events are free and suitable for a wide range of audiences. For more information or to register for this event, visit the Stream Team’s website at www.streamteam.info/getinvolved/calendar.
