LACEY, Wash. –  The musical talents of student performers from Saint Martin’s University will be showcased at the 2013 Hope Concert, an annual event held to raise funds for the Saint Martin’s yearly mission service trip. The concert will take place Wednesday, April 24, 7:30 p.m. at Marcus Pavilion, 5300 Pacific Ave SE. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

All proceeds from the concert will go toward the University’s service trip, which offers approximately 15 students the opportunity to explore the realities of poverty and homelessness in America and work for a more just society.

Performing a wide range of musical selections will be the Saint Martin’s University Chorale, directed by Darrell Born; the Saint Martin’s Band and Jazz Combo, both directed by Brad Schrandt; and the Guitar Ensemble, directed by Phil Lawson. Students will also share their musical abilities through several solos and duets.

“This year’s concert will continue our tradition of joining together for a beautiful evening of music, while maintaining full awareness of the importance of extending compassion and service to people who are struggling,” says Born, chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Department at the University. “It is vitally important for our students to know they can use their talents to benefit not only themselves but people less fortunate in the broader community.”

Fair trade coffee will be available for purchase in support of this year’s mission service trip.

For more information about the Hope Concert, please call Saint Martin’s Department of Music at 360-438-4506 or the Service Immersion Programs office at 360-438-4381.
