An open house to commemorate a unique, new private grief support center will be held on Saturday, November 2, at 1026 State Ave NE in Olympia. November 2 is purposely chosen as the opening date in order to highlight Dia de los Muertos – Day of the Dead. Finding its way to more US neighborhoods, Day of the Dead is described as a “Mexican tradition combining native Aztec and Roman Catholic practices and beliefs.” (AZ Central) At the Open House November 2, Navigating Grief will be sharing the festive traditions with hands-on activities that can be used to build a community ofendra, or altar, throughout the day. Rituals are great way to keep the memories of loved ones alive, honor the remembered gifts from the deceased and bring people together recognizing the ongoing nature of loss.
