European Union Center in the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington.
Since shortly after the end of World War 2, the NATO alliance has been the guarantor of security. NATO was, is and will remain a US-dominated entity with the US representing over 70% of NATO country defense spending. As the European Union has grown in size and scope, and the US has shown signs of focusing on other concerns at home and around the world, what are the options for European/EU countries taking a greater role in its own defense, and what does that process mean for NATO?
