“Top Hat, Tux and Tails: Formal Verse Then and Now” is the theme for the free May 5 Paul Gillie Memorial workshop sponsored by the Olympia Poetry Network.  The event runs from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. NW in downtown Olympia.  Ever wonder about the difference between a sonnet and a sestina, an epigraph and an epigram?  This class will explore exercises and examples of formal poems, new or old, funny or serious.  Presenter Allen Braden is the author of A Wreath of Down and Drops of Blood (University of Georgia) and Elegy in the Passive Voice (University of Alaska/Fairbanks). He teaches at Tacoma Community College. For more information call 360-701-2030.
