The Nisqually Land Trust will host a Nature Walk at its Trestle Farm Property, along the Nisqually River in Yelm on Saturday, August 17th, from 9:30 a.m. until Noon.
George Walter, board member and founder of the Land Trust, will guide the 1.5-mile walk on easy-to-moderate terrain, and share stories about how this forested shoreline was preserved. Bring your binoculars and sense of adventure as we search for birds and beaver amongst huge cedars and marshy pockets.
Trestle Farm, also known as the Elledge Ranch, is a long-time landmark and former home and equestrian center of Dr. William and Cathy Elledge.
This Land Trust property in part of the Yelm Shoreline Protected Area and includes a reach of the Nisqually River that provides spawning grounds for Coho and threatened Chinook and steelhead salmon, and is excellent rearing habitat for all five Nisqually salmon species. Participants will learn more about restoration of the Yelm Shoreline Protected Area and the importance of conservation in the Nisqually Watershed for the future of our threatened salmon.
Space is limited for both walks and registration is free but required. Contact the Nisqually Land Trust at 360-489-3400 ext. 110 or sjackson@nisquallylandtrust.org for more information and to register.
