DBST hails from the capital city of Olympia. Over the past two years they have cultivated a unique sound blending blues, rock and funk grooves with frontman Samuel Pohl’s high energy yet genuine songwriting to produce a refreshingly original result. David Himlie, Sam Pohl and Ben Darin worked rigorously to build a foundation upon which this group would grow. But, inevitably, somewhere along the way, more sounds and complexity started becoming a desirable step. With great friends and musicians to fill in the blanks, the trio was soon no more. Saxophone and more guitar became a regularity as Ryan Coughran and Dave Van Zandt began adding their inventive styles and ideas. Since solidifying structure, the past two years have seen the band go from playing classic dives in Olympia, to sharing stages at the Capital Theater and Olympia ballroom with greats like Joe Doria, Skerik’s Bandalabra, San Fran based Monophonics and most recently Polyrythmics and Eldridge Gravy and the court supreme at Olympia’s annual Oly funk fest.
