Family Education and Support Services (FESS) is a local non-profit agency that offers an array of programs and services to support children and families. One or our programs is the Kinship Program where we offer resources and services to grandparents and other relatives that are raising relative children. The Kinship Program at Family Education and Support Services will be hosting a Kinship Advocacy Day for Kinship Caregivers across the state on Tuesday, February 14. We will be meeting from 11 am to 1 pm in the Washington Room in the Pritchard Building (the “Library”) located at 415 15th Ave. SE on the Washington State Capitol Campus.
Representative Eric Pettigrew, who was himself raised by his grandmother, will be there to speak on behalf of Kinship Caregivers. Representative Ruth Kagi, who was appointed to the recent Blue Ribbon Commission on Children and Families, will also be speaking at the event to share the benefits that the Blue Ribbon Commission will offer to Kinship Caregivers. We will be supporting our caregivers in speaking with their representatives about the issues they face and we will also have other speakers presenting on topics relevant to Kinship Caregivers.
