We’re thrilled to celebrate Corinna Luyken’s new book, ABC and You and Me at our June Singalong Story Time with Chris Sabatini. Corinna will read from her books and lead children in movement.
After the story time, there will be a special snack and Corinna will be available to sign books.
Award-winning artist Corinna Luyken inspires kids to move their bodies as they learn the alphabet with this playful approach to a fundamental concept.
Can you wiggle your wrists? Can you twist from your hips? Can you lean without bending your knees? Well then, follow me!
In this original ABC book that encourages readers to sit up and move, kids and grownups use their bodies to make the shapes of each letter (and observant readers will notice details on each page that represent those letters). Gloriously illustrated by the acclaimed creator of The Book of Mistakes and My Heart, this is a terrific new way to learn the alphabet.
Browsers is excited to host our first consistent story time. We’re partnering with Olympia’s Chris Sabatini, musician and book lover, to host our story time for both children and their adults upstairs at Browsers. We will sing and read together every second Saturday of the month.
Corinna Luyken is the author-illustrator of ABC AND YOU AND ME; THE TREE IN ME (an NCTE Notable Poetry Book and Indie Bestseller); MY HEART (A New York Times Best Seller); and THE BOOK OF MISTAKES (which The Wall Street Journal called “sublime”). She is also the illustrator of IN THE DARK (Aug 2023) and NOTHING IN COMMON, both written by Kate Hoefler; PATCHWORK (A New York Times and Kirkus Best Picture Book of 2022), written by Matt de la Peña; SOMETHING GOOD and ADRIAN SIMCOX DOES NOT HAVE A HORSE, both written by Marcy Campbell; and WEIRD LITTLE ROBOTS, written by Carolyn Crimi. She was raised in Oregon, California, and Hawaii; and studied dance improvisation, poetry, and printmaking at Middlebury College in Vermont. She now lives in Western Washington, near the Salish Sea, where she also likes to dig in the dirt, surf, and read with a cat (or two) on her lap.
Chris Sabatini is a songwriter and artist, and has lived, worked, and volunteered in Olympia since 2010. In collaboration with his spouse, Tiffany, Chris founded Ancient Futures Place-Based Education, where he is a teacher focusing on music and storytelling. He previously worked in Youth Services at the downtown Olympia library, where he inaugurated a weekly Saturday storytime incorporating music, books, and creative play. He is currently a volunteer with KAOS radio and the West Olympia Saturday Market.
