“Coming Home: How the Humanities Help Soldiers Find Meaning After War” will lead off the tenth Speakers Bureau series on Harstine Island. Drawing from hundreds of hours spent with veterans, author and professor Jeb Wyman will discuss the profound moral and emotional impact the experience of war has had on them and how war forever changes those who return from it. Whether having was fought on horseback in the Civil War or in Humvees in Iraq, veterans face grave challenges after war—haunted by memory, burdened by guilt, searching for meaning, and trying to rejoin a society removed from the reality of war. Wyman will discuss how studying conflict through the lens of the humanities can help both veterans and civilians heal the wounds of war.
Drive to Harstine Island and follow the signs to the Community Hall.
