Learn about Olympia’s rich multi-cultural history on Saturday, May 18, from 10am to 2pm. In celebration of National Historical Preservation Month the Olympia Heritage Commission is highlighting the contributions of “Peoples of Olympia.” Did you know that African Americans were business owners in Olympia as early as the 1860s? Have you walked along the Chambers Block without realizing the artesian well below has been an important Native American site for hundreds of years? You’ll learn about these and other stories too long hidden!
Stroll along Capitol Way, from Sylvester Park to the Farmer’s Market, to find displays and meet cultural representatives from the Squaxin Island Tribe, the Black Pioneers History Project, Sons and Daughters of Norway, Daughters of the Pioneers, Jewish Heritage, and the Olympia American Chinese Fellowship.
