This course, for ages 16 and older, will be taught in two sessions (Saturday and Sunday from 9am-5pm).

In the first session, students will learn to use basic woodworking hand tools such as saws, marking gauges, combination squares, chisels, marking knives, and hand planes. Description and discussion will be followed by coached practice in the use of these tools. All this will take place before moving to the second segment.

The second session will provide a practical application in the use of woodworking hand tools to the process of constructing an 8″x10″ Arts-and-Crafts picture frame. The term “Arts and Crafts” relates to a movement in design, architecture, and furniture dating from the 1880’s to about 1920. In furniture, it often refers to simply designed, functional pieces made to last. The “Morris Chair” and similar pieces are examples.
