The February discussion will focus on what are commonly called Over Excitabilities (OE’s) based on the work of Kazimierz Dabrowski and the Theory of Positive Disintegration. Don’t let all that theory and Polish name stuff throw you off. Dabrowski’s notion of “superstimulatability” or stronger neurological reactions to stimuli has been translated to over excitability or overabundance of energy. We know from experience and research that gifted/highly capable people are often perceived as “too much ….” fill in the blank. Our discussion will focus on a bit about the theory and a lot about how the OE’s translate in the lives of kids and adults through the life cycle. The impact on and in families is palpable.
A prior participant said this about the benefit of the discussion group: “You don’t want to miss this opportunity to join our community in learning how to deepen and broaden your experience with your child and your self. Barbara Mitchell Hutton is a master, full of insight and wisdom from years of working on the leading edge of gifted education.”
The foundation book for this discussion group is Living with Intensity (Daniels and Piechowski, 2009.) Other resources will be provided as topics of interest develop.
This series is free. Attendance at each group meeting is not necessary but advance registration is helpful for planning. To register or if you have questions email Barbara at bhutton@novaschool.org.
