Sunday Jan 16th at Noon in A1107 (SEM II Bldg, Evergreen State College), Hackbloc will be leading a workshop on security culture, computer security, encryption, and anonymity. This workshop is targeted towards activists, journalists, and members of the general public. This workshop is FREE, though an equivalent corporate training could easily run into the hundreds of dollars. All participants will receive digital copies of the presentation materials. Bring your laptop.
Many attendees have taken this workshop numerous times due to the amount of content it covers. A large portion of this workshop will be hands-on computer work. If you can browse the web, you know enough to learn what we’ll be working on. You’ll also probably want to bring something to take notes with.
Topics we will cover:
-What encryption is and how it works
-How to encrypt files, emails, or your entire computer
-How to browse the web/communicate/public anonymously, bypass web filters, and use the Tor software
-Measures to encrypt your text messages and secure your phone
-How to protect your privacy online and in real life
– What types of government surveillance do we face, how can we fight back
