City Invites Public Comment On ‘Missing Middle Housing’

The Community Planning & Development Department is hosting two open houses to share information and receive public comment on its ‘Missing Middle Housing’ project. ‘Missing Middle Housing’ includes housing that can provide more than one housing unit per property in a way that is compatible within Olympia’s existing neighborhoods. Some examples include duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, backyard and in-home apartments, townhomes, cottages, and tiny homes. These housing types are in the ‘middle’ of the range of housing types, between single-family homes and larger apartment buildings. These types of housing have been largely missing from new housing construction in recent decades. Missing Middle Housing can provide more affordable housing options for many Olympia residents.
