CALEB KLAUDER AND REEB WILLMS

Sometimes we get so unnecessarily swept up in who’s rising and falling in the music scene that the sheer joy of music is overlooked. Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms are a world apart from all of that nonsense and let you immerse yourself in the melody and story of classic sounding original country music until all other cares of life fade away, writing music that lives at the true crossroads of Americana. Theirs is a music where influences of country, bluegrass, old time, cajun and blues intersect to create one of the most traditional yet diverse sounds in the modern Americana landscape.

Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms are known to roots music fans across the globe for their soulful harmonies, driving dance music, classic original songs, and commitment to the raw truth of rural American music. Charismatic performers, Reeb and Caleb work intuitively, bringing the spirit of legendary country duos into their modern takes on country music with an eye towards good times and an ear towards the deepest songs and tunes. The blend of true harmonies, the sharply-written country songs, and the un-showy authenticity strike a rich vein that makes them seem like they are born and raised in Music City. For years, Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms have been at the heart of Portland’s music scene. The Foghorn Stringband, of which Caleb is a founding member and now Reeb is also a member, led the burgeoning square dance and Appalachian string band revival. And for some time now they’ve been leading Portland’s underground country scene, quietly pursuing a country music vision without much care for what’s expected or in vogue at the time. There’s a lot to admire in this singular perseverance and honesty.

THE FAUX PAWS

“a group that can rock on the dance floor as easily as the concert hall.”– Devon Léger, Folk Alley

From raging fiddle tunes, to saxophone solos and unrequited love songs, the music of The Faux Paws would be hard to pin down with standard genre descriptions. A Faux Paws live show is an explosive roller coaster ride that brings the audience along. Virtuosity on the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and saxophone, sure, but also vulnerability, personal lyrics, tight 3-part brother harmonies, playful interplay, intricately arranged details and soaring improvisations.

GOLDEN SHOALS
“… rousing old-time-style music that’s fueled by acerbic modern-day wit. ” – No Depression

Initially brought together by a mutual love of American folk music, Golden Shoals’ sound has expanded to include country, Americana, Indie and Experimental influences, allowing them to move more freely beyond genre boundaries with their songwriting while still emanating a deep understanding of Old-Time and Bluegrass music. Ever inspired by the enduring spirit of traditional Appalachian mountain music, their songwriting comes across as simple, honest, and fresh to the ears. The listener can expect the polished technique of conservatory training, in tandem with the grit, drive, and soul of musicians like Roscoe Holcomb or Ola Belle Reed.

They are no strangers to traditional music, having placed in contests including Clifftop (3rd place 2023, 4th place 2022), Mount Airy, The Grand Masters Fiddlers Championship and Galax. Often switching instruments between fiddle, two guitars, and banjo, their original songs have been compared to Gillian Welch, with the added edge of instrumental prowess informed by energetic old time and bluegrass recordings.
