Build a Small Wooden Row Boat

This course is focused on developing a basic understanding of wooden boatbuilding while constructing a small traditionally planked rowboat. Students will take information from the lofting (full sized plans) and start making parts of the boat. Throughout the course there will be a variety of demonstrations helping the students prepare for the next step. Working together as a team will ensure the boat’s quality and completion by the last day of the course.

Skills acquired will also include basic hand tool use/maintenance, pattern making, understanding boat plans and contemplating design. No experience is necessary but students must be prepared to work diligently to improve hand skills and develop an eye for craftsmanship.

The class will collaborate to build one small rowboat. The boat may be purchased in advance for the cost of materials, estimated at $950, or it will be for sale to the public after the class for $3,500.
