Few things are truer than the saying, “Home sweet home.” And thanks to the South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity, since 1989 locally. Nearly 90 homes have been built and more than 80 have been repaired, thanks to volunteer hours from community members and future homeowners. To support their ongoing mission, 2025 welcomes their first annual Habitat Gala event Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to experience a night of magic and delight while supporting this vital organization.

Fundraising Gala Showcases the Tireless Efforts of South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity
This first annual Habitat Gala fundraiser will be held at the Hal and Inge Marcus Pavilion at Saint Martin’s University. Tickets are available, individually or by the table of eight, and on sale now through Habitat’s website. If you’d like to help sponsor the event in any way, reach out to advancement@spshabitat.org and their team is happy to discuss available options.
South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity’s Chrissy Carlson explains that they decided to play with the idea of habitat, transporting guests to a whimsical forest, complete with real plants, themed cocktails and costumed circus performers. Guests are encouraged to come wearing cocktail attire with forest adornment to continue the theme. Looking for inspiration? Try downtown’s Hot Toddy Boutique or Lily’s What to Where Boutique for plenty of dresses and accessories adorned with mushrooms, animals, plants and celestial prints.
All proceeds will support South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity’s mission of providing affordable home ownership, home repair and public education. Nationally, Habitat for Humanity, grew from a commitment to community and racial equity in 1940’s Georgia. From the start, they had a simple mission: bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. This echoes their vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Carlson says that South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity is, “on-track to build 162 new homes in our community over the next five years, greatly expanding affordable homeownership in our region.”

Forest-themed Fun, Frivolity, Fundraising and Festivities Await at the Habitat Gala
The fairy-tastic Gala night includes entertainment and revelry throughout. Costumed Forest Guardians and Mushroom Gnomes from Cirque Cadia will perform for the audience as will a band who consider themselves so unprofessional…quite literally. So Unprofessional are local rock-and-roll musicians lead by board member and Artisan Group Principal Architect Tessa Bradley.
Thanks to generous donations and presenting sponsor OlyFed, the Gala also includes a live auction. Hosted by Chris Cashman of King 5 Evening, items on the block include getaways to Mexico and Italy, a week in a prime Maui condo, Mariners tickets, a ski package and much more. “It’s going to be a night of fun, whimsical entertainment and inspiration,” Carlson promises, “We welcome all South Puget Sound Habitat supporters to join us.”

The Entire Community Benefits When Families Can Enjoy Safe, Affordable Housing
Beyond the Gala, there are many ways to get involved with Habitat’s outreach. The organization welcomes volunteers at any level of skill and/or experience. There are opportunities doing hands-on construction work, supporting the Habitat retail store or with fundraising, event planning, volunteer coordination, advocacy and other behind-the-scenes assistance.
Or consider becoming a corporate partner, faith partner or member of Veterans Build 2025 or a Women Build team. Dedicated, collaborative, nonpartisan advocates are also needed to help inform lawmakers about housing regulations, land development and other rules impacting the organization.
You can also support through direct donation, donating a car, planned giving or joining the builders circle. Benefit both Habitat and your own home with a trip to west Olympia or Yelm’s Habitat Store. These discount home improvement retail and donation centers are open to the public and sell new and gently-used donated goods with all monies going back into the organization’s work.
Habitat for Humanity has affiliates in all 50 states and an international arm which works in more than 70 developing countries. Abroad they focus on construction and repair, disaster risk reduction and response, market development, orphans and vulnerable groups, and issues of water, sanitation and hygiene.
