The Pope John Paul II High School girls track and field team soared to victory at the WIAA Gesa Credit Union State Championships, winning the state title for the second time in three years. With a commanding performance across distance, hurdles, relays, and field events, the Eagles reaffirmed their place as one of Washington’s most dominant high school track programs.

The team was led by sophomore Ruby Henry, who defended her state titles in both the 1600m and 3200m with decisive wins. In the 1600m, she was followed by senior Ariel Brewer, who went on to defend her own state title in the 800m, showcasing JPII’s continued excellence in middle-distance events.

The 1600m featured a historic team performance, with the Eagles capturing five of the eight podium spots: Ruby (1st), Ariel (2nd), Lily Warne-Mcgraw (4th), Adeline Hecht (5th), and Isla Valpiani (8th). The 3200m followed a similar script, as Ruby led a top-three sweep with Adeline and Ariel finishing 2nd and 3rd, Isla (7th), and Lily (8th) rounding out another dominant showing.

In the 300m hurdles, junior Amy Kondrat delivered an impressive race, placing second and improving on her finish from last year. The Eagle 4x400m relay team also impressed, earning 2nd place with a powerhouse lineup of Adeline, Amy, Ariel, and Ruby. In field events, junior Claire Larson placed 3rd in the discus, adding key points to the team total.

The JPII boys team also finished the season strong. Sophomore Kevin Hu earned 3rd in the 1600m and 5th in the 3200m, while his brother, senior Eric Hu, finished 7th and 6th in the same events.

From sweeping distance races to reaching the podium in hurdles, relays, and field events, the Eagles delivered a thrilling and complete team effort—once again proving they are a force in Washington high school track and field.
