Alauna Carstens (Jr.) from The Evergreen State College won the 5,000-meter run at the Oregon Preview on Friday, March 21 with a time of 16:58.27 at Hayward Field. She broke her own school record and met the “A” standard to qualify for the 2025 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Carstens was one of 16 competitors in the highlighted flight of the 5,000-meter event. Her time lowered her previous school record of 17:11.84 by 13.57 seconds. She finished under the NAIA “A” standard of 16:59.00. Carstens also qualified for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.
During the race, Carstens maintained a ready pace and owned the lead over the final 2,800-meters. She won by 3.82 seconds over Maya Ewing of Seattle Pacific University, who took second place in 17:02.09. Kyla Potratz from Western Oregon University was third at 17:04.29.
Evergreen athletes Sherlyn Perales (Fr.) and Izabelle Trefts (Jr.) competed in the 5,000-meter run “B” flight at the Oregon Preview. Perales finished the race in 18:50.29, lowering her personal best by .43 from her time of 18:50.72 at the PLU Invite on March 14. Trefts concluded Friday’s race in 18:59.62.
