The Evergreen State College has qualified for the 2024-25 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The Geoducks will open the tournament at regular season champion Southern Oregon University in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Ashland, Oregon. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
The CCC Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket includes the top eight teams in the final regular season standings. Top-seeded Southern Oregon, ranked #3 in the NAIA, won the regular season title with a 22-0 record. The Raiders are 28-0 on the season. Evergreen, seeded #8, concluded the regular season at 8-14 in the CCC and 8-16 overall. The Geoducks went on a five-game winning streak late in the season to move into tournament qualifying position.
“I have great pride in how the team came together and pushed five wins in a row to keep our goal of returning to the playoffs again,” Evergreen Head Women’s Basketball Coach Derrick Pringle said. “With the leadership of Jalyn Sackrider, Sydney VanNess, Allison DeBerry, Mikail Montez, and Thuyvi Tran, they wanted to play in the CCC Tournament during their senior season. All of the hard work is now paying off.”
All of the quarterfinal tournament games will be played on Wednesday. Oregon Tech, seeded #2 with an 18-4 record in the CCC and a 22-6 overall mark, will host Corban University, seeded #7 at 9-13 in the CCC and 11-17 overall. OIT is ranked #22 in the NAIA. Lewis-Clark State College, the #3 seed at 17-5 in the CCC and 23-5 on the season, will host Bushnell University, seeded #6 with a 10-12 CCC mark and an 11-17 overall record. Eastern Oregon University, seeded #4 at 15-7 in CCC action and 19-8 overall, will host College of Idaho, the #5 seed with a 14-8 CCC record and a 16-11 record on the season.
The CCC Semifinals will be played on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. local time. The CCC Championship will be played on Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. local time.
Evergreen’s top scorer is VanNess (Sr., G/F) with 13.7 points per game. She has connected on 37 three-pointers this season and has earned 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Sackrider (Sr., F/C) has contributed 12.9 points, a team-high 9.0 rebounds, and a CCC-leading 2.9 blocked shots per game. She has blocked 70 shots this year.
Montez (Sr., F/C) has supplied the Geoducks with 10.9 points per contest, while grabbing 5.5 rebounds and achieving 2.0 assists per game. DeBerry (Sr., G) has provided 6.5 points, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She leads Evergreen with 96 assists on the season.
