Go into any bar or restaurant and you will hear an increasing number of customers ask for non-alcoholic craft beers. Olympia’s award-winning Three Magnets Brewing Company identified that burgeoning consumer interest in 2020 and that’s why it launched its Self Care line of non-alcoholic beer.

Craft beer lovers’ interest in non-alcoholic brews has continued to grow rapidly since then. And Three Magnets Brewing Company is ahead of that curve again by recently partnering with Talking Cedar Brewery & Distillery in Grand Mound to expand the locally popular Self Care line into major retail chains, bars and restaurants across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Self Care has already been approved for placements in Total Wine stores across Washington for Dry January and is working to pursue additional chain placements in 2025.

Three Magnets President Nathan Reilly and CEO Sara Reilly, co-owners along with Director of Brewing Operations Aaron Blonden, are delighted to serve the community members who are part of the growing non-alcoholic beer movement through their purchase and promotion of the Self Care line of beers. “We have an incredibly successful product,” says Nathan of the Self Care line. “It gave us reason to move forward. We have received national attention.”

Three Magnets Brewing Company’s Innovative History in Downtown Olympia Includes Developing Popular Non-Alcoholic Beer

Three Magnets microbrewery and pub opened in Olympia in 2014. Beer, cider, wine, Self Care non-alcoholic beer, and other beverages and snacks are available at the downtown brewery that offers indoor and outdoor seating. Local food trucks serve sandwiches, pizza, barbecue and South Indian options on scheduled days. Families, children and dogs are welcome. Three Magnets Brewing Company also features free live performances by notable Pacific Northwest musicians on “Scherler Sundays.” Two years of those performances are now recorded on an album.

The Three Magnets Brewing Company  team has been innovative in developing products and methods to satisfy evolving consumer demands and business environments, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. They had offered an alcohol-free Sober October and Dry January, with a good response. At about the same time, Aaron suggested the microbrewery produce a non-alcoholic beer.

With the team’s expertise, research and development, the stars aligned to make and produce Self Care. Three Magnets Brewing Company designed and perfected a proprietary fermentation process brewing non-alcoholic beers with robust flavors that present the best characteristics of real craft beer. “Because we are small, we can pivot on a dime,” explains Aaron of their nimble brewing processes. Since its launch, the Self Care line has included a variety of popular beers with more than 60 unique recipes to date, receiving positive national reviews.

Non-Alcoholic Beers Take Off Globally and at Three Magnets Brewing Company

The global non-alcoholic beer market is exploding and is projected to reach $40 billion. Lots of reasons explain the growing interest, such as a generation of young people who view alcohol differently. “We are meeting a lot of 21-year-olds who do not touch alcohol,” says Sara. “They like the flavor, but they don’t want the alcohol.”

And adults of all ages are becoming more sober-interested and mindful about the physical and mental impacts of overindulging in alcohol. Some want to continue to drink alcohol but moderate their intake by swapping some libations with satisfying non-alcoholic options. Non-alcoholic beers also cater to a wider group of customers such as pregnant women, athletes and those with medical reasons to restrict alcohol. Plus, non-alcoholic beer is perfect for hosts who want to offer their guests a wider variety of beverages.

“The demand is high here and we have been active in putting our Self Care in local businesses,” says Aaron. “The growth was really fun, and organic.” Indeed, at least 60 Olympia area restaurants, bars and businesses carry Self Care. “We have really dedicated followers getting us into places,” says Sara.

“Word is spreading quickly around Washington,” adds Nathan. “And we have been shipping to 41 states.”

Three Magnets Brewing Company Partners with Talking Cedar

Three Magnets Brewing Company is partnering with Talking Cedar to produce and distribute Self Care, while inviting investors to also come on board as they work to expand the non-alcoholic beer line into bigger retail markets.

The Chehalis Tribe’s Talking Cedar production brewery offers nearly 50,000 barrels of brewing capacity and quality control labs, among other features. Aaron will work with the Talking Cedar team to make the beer, and Talking Cedar will license the brand and help with distribution. “Having a facility in our backyard that we can check in with milestones is huge,” says Nathan.

Three Magnets Brewing Company is also raising funds to support Self Care’s next level expansion by offering an investment opportunity through crowdfunding. For more information, see details linked on the Three Magnets Brewing Company website.
