Parenting is rewarding, but it isn’t always easy! North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS) offers no-cost family education workshops to support families in student success at all ages. NTPS Family Engagement Liaison Nancy Cutlip organizes the family education workshops, which are offered throughout the school year and focus on different developmental stages.

“We know parenting can be a challenge,” Cutlip says. “We want to offer age-based and developmentally appropriate support.”

To accommodate busy families, NTPS offers a mix of in-person and virtual options. The 2024-2025 school year series includes:

  • Bilingual Preschool Story Time (for ages 3-5). These monthly events include a read-aloud in English and another world language, a fun activity for families to do together, a free book, and a snack to go.
  • Success in the Early Years (for guardians of ages 3–5). This series supports school readiness through Zoom and in-person events featuring expert speakers, door prizes, and a chance to connect with other families.
  • Winning at Parenting (for guardians of grades K–5). This series is designed to support families of school-aged children in learning new parenting strategies and connecting with other parents. The series is virtual, via Zoom.
  • Tweens & Teens (for guardians of grades 6- 12). Workshops are held in-person, monthly, at the North Thurston High School Library. Join for expert guest speakers, relevant topics, and a chance to connect with other parents.

North Thurston Public Schools strives to offer meaningful classes and programs, and regularly asks for family input on the workshop offerings.

“We ask what people want to learn about. It’s all family driven,” Cutlip says.
