Submitted by Tumwater School District
At a Special Meeting held on August 8, 2024, the TSD Board of Directors unanimously agreed to appoint Ty Kuehl to fill the vacant District 3 position that was vacated by Scott Killough, who resigned effective June 13, 2024. Ty Kuehl took the oath of office at the August 22, 2024 School Board Meeting and will serve a one-year term through December 2025.
Ty was selected following interviews of three candidates. The Board expressed their appreciation for each of the candidates and thank them for their time and interest in our district. All three are very dedicated to the community and to Tumwater School District and the Board appreciated each sharing their vision for the district.
Ty Kuehl was raised in the Tumwater community and attended East Olympia Elementary, Bush Middle School, then graduated from Tumwater High school in 2003. He went on to attend University of Washington and Saint Martin’s University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration concentrating on marketing and management. He currently works as a Territory Manager in the import and manufacturing industry. He also is involved in extracurricular youth activities within the community and puts great emphasis on the value of community involvement.
In materials submitted for consideration to serve on the board, Ty shared, “I plan on being very involved in the community and the public schools in Tumwater as my wife and I have four children, two of which will be going into first and second grade this fall (at EOE), followed by a one- and three-year old in the future… I am loyal to this fantastic place and want to make it better. I am very motivated to see Tumwater School District remain a premier district in the area and destination community for families to be in. I look forward to making sure our students are the first priority, and that they have everything they need to be successful while also being fiscally responsible and working to maintain that the staff and the board have a great relationship within the community and that we are all working toward the same goals.”
The Board shared they are excited to have Ty join the Board. He was selected for his commitment to a strong strategic plan that aligns with the goals of the Bord. He has a focus on collaboration and shared ways to elicit ongoing feedback from the community. He wants to raise the bar in student performance and improve outcomes for all kids.
