You may have overlooked their first two years, which is understandable given the constant flurry of new music events post-pandemic. However, you won’t get off that easy this year – there’s no escaping South Sound Block Party’s lineup announcement. They’ve secured a co-sign from some absolute legends, cementing their place as the tentpole independent live-music event in the South Sound.
Headlining this year’s event is none other than Olympia’s own punk rock pioneers, Bikini Kill, renowned for their groundbreaking contributions to the riot grrrl movement and their unapologetically political stance. Joining them as the second headliner is the legendary LA icons X, celebrated for their influential role in the punk rock scene worldwide, including their groundbreaking debut album “Los Angeles,” which Rolling Stone hailed as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Scheduled for Friday, August 23rd, and Saturday, August 24th, the two-day festival promises an unforgettable experience at The Port in Olympia, Washington. With an eclectic mix of internationally acclaimed acts and rising stars from the South Sound region, SSBP24 is not only a must-attend event for locals but also a lineup worth traveling to – the Main Stage sits on the shores of Puget Sound.
While the headliners command one’s attention from the get-go, the rest of the ‘something for everyone’s lineup beckons exploration as it embraces diversity and pushes artistic boundaries – the unmistakable signature of SSBP’s programming. Other notable acts include reggae-infused indie group Surfer Girl, up-and-coming hip-hop phenom Oblé Reed (Spokane), and a few Olympia-based bands: Manic Pixie Dream Boat, Hillstomp, and LAKE.
