We are in high demand lately for neck pain and shoulder pain so we decided we needed to do a free workshop on these items. Neck pain, tension headaches and TMJ often overlap and many times people think they have shoulder pain when it is actually coming from the neck. We want to help straighten out what is the source of the pain and what you can do about it. It is also very common to just start having neck pain or shoulder pain that you can’t seem to figure out what set it off. We can help explain why that is very common and help you think back on what might have caused it to come on when it seems “out of the blue.”
Who is this workshop for?
If you are suffering from neck pain, TMJ pain, tension headaches or shoulder pain and would like to understand what and why this is happening this is perfect for you! You will learn common causes of these issues and what you can do about it.
Here’s what you’ll learn at this workshop:
- Common causes of neck pain, shoulder pain, tension headaches and TMJ and practical tips to help those issues.

In fact, I’ll give you one practical tip now: when seated make sure your tongue is resting with the tip of tongue on the roof of your mouth, teeth apart, mouth closed to cause less tension in your jaw and facial muscles. If you breathe through your mouth this creates more work for your jaw muscles and more tension and load on the TMJ. Increased clenching and tension in the jaw usually spreads to the neck as well. Start looking at your postures and positions throughout the day to see if you can figure out what daily habits might be causing more tension and load to your neck, shoulder, and jaw. Often what we do all the time adds up and the body can no longer handle bad posture or poor workstation setup, etc.
We have lots of free resources and tips on the Penrose Physical Therapy website. Dr. Penrose also hosts a Podcast “Stay Healthy South Sound” and the latest episode is on neck pain, headaches, and TMJ.
Dr. Penrose and her Team are committed to providing an excellent experience. Feel free to reach out with questions and we’d be happy to help you at 360.456.1444.
