Start planning your costume for the annual Haunted 5k to benefit All Kids Win, a local nonprofit and volunteer-run program that provides weekend food bags to nearly 1,000 middle and high school students in North Thurston, Tumwater and Olympia, and K-12 students in Tenino, Rainier, Yelm and Rochester every week.

This year’s fun run and Kids K race take place Saturday, October 28, at Woodland Creek Community Park in Lacey. The fun run, which will include a Kids K, benefits All Kids Win. Runners can also choose the virtual race option.

“The All Kids Win Haunted 5k is a fun way for residents to gather friends, bring their kids and support their neighbors impacted by food insecurity,” said Kelli Schueler, long-time All Kids Win volunteer and co-founder of Kesh Marketing. “The funds raised by this event, and others throughout the year, help us fulfill our vision to ensure hunger never gets in the way of student success and our mission to actively end the cycle of hunger and housing insecurity, one student at a time.”

Details of this year’s Haunted 5k and Kids K are:

“Not only does this fun run help All Kids Win do their great work to end food insecurity for students across Thurston County but it also directly aligns with our value of building strong communities through programs like this and others,” said John Kiley, co-owner of Kiley Juergens Wealth Management LCC. “Coming together – even dressed as Spiderman – allows us to make a big difference for our neighbors and help our students achieve their academic and life goals without worrying about access to food.”

Last year, 98 runners participated in the race, up from 76 runners in 2021, and 31 children participated in the first-ever Kids K.

The weekend program was created to bridge the gap for students who benefit from government-supported meal programs, which are available only during school days. Each week, All Kids Win volunteers deliver nearly 1,000 food bags to local middle and high schools in Thurston County.

All Kids Win’s next event is the 12 Days of Christmas virtual auction, which will be held December 1-12. There will be silent auction items every day and a live auction item each evening at 5:00 p.m.
