The Capital Lakefair Grand Parade on Saturday, July 16 at 5 p.m. will include a new entry, the 35th Infantry Division Band from the Kansas Army National Guard based in Olathe, near Kansas City. The band, under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jim Walker, includes 33 musicians, among whose civilian occupations include band directors, general music teachers, pharmacists, IT specialists, human resource director, instrument repair technician, college students, systems analyst, plumber, retail sales agent, and VA Disability claims agent.

The band will be stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) this summer and is also performing at the Curran Apple Orchard Festival, Kent Cornucopia Days and a Change of Command at JBLM. In recent years the band has performed at Kansas City Royals baseball games and Kansas City Chiefs football contests. Capital Lakefair returns this year with its family-friendly summer festival activities beginning Wednesday, July 13 and culminating with the Fireworks Spectacular  over Capitol Lake on Sunday, July 17.
