Submitted by South Sound YMCA
Two members of the South Sound YMCA were recently honored and recognized through national YMCA leadership programs. These recognitions highlight the outstanding talent we have here in our region and the tremendous impact and leadership of our local YMCA both locally and on a national scale.
Michelle Gipson has been selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of the Anti-Racist Multicultural Organization International Learning Institute. The Institute is a continuation of the YMCAs commitment to becoming an anti-racist, multicultural organization – and works to design strategies and opportunities for local leaders to help their Ys navigate the cultural and organizational change necessary for this work.
Participants will explore their own understanding of how to critically analyze systems of oppression that exist in society – and within our organization – through an intercultural and global lens. Michelle’s first meeting will be in Aarhus, Denmark at the World Council of YMCAs!
Dania Tolentino was selected as one of YMCA of the USA’s 30 Under 30 class of 2021! Through this recognition, YMCA of the USA seeks to identify and formally acknowledge YMCA leaders under the age of 30 for their accomplishments and potential to lead our YMCA movement in the coming decades. Dania was selected out of nearly 200 nominees and is one of only two young leaders honored from the entire West Coast! Dania joins Aubree Fudge as our Y’s second 30 Under 30 honoree since the program started in 2017.
