Nutrition and strength training coach Scott Drapeau incorporates his varied life skills into a full-service wellness coaching business called Alliance Athletics Olympia. “I meet people where they are,” says Scott, who is also a massage therapist. He thrives on people’s progression, and shares the joy with clients who say, “I can’t believe how strong I am.” One client could not even do an air squat on the first meeting. “The body will rise to the challenge we give,” affirms Scott. He understands people come with all levels of health and ability.

Scott believes optimal health relies on three pillars: nutrition, strength and recovery.

There are many elements to consider like the quality of your sleep, food, and the behaviors you do daily that are essential to your overall health. Alliance Athletics will design a personal program that is as easy as possible to fit into your life. The habits you rely on every day add up. “It’s all about consistency,” says Scott. It is not about buying all sorts of supplements or equipment. How you show up in life is reflective of the food you eat, how you move your body regularly and what you do to recover.

Recently, Alliance Athletics Olympia expanded into a welcoming space in the Security Building in downtown Olympia. “The atmosphere is conducive to wellness,” says Scott. It’s a place to do face-to-face nutrition coaching, where all sessions are handled by appointment only. “Privacy is of the utmost,” he confirms. The massage table is also set up. The full gym continues to be maintained at his home. Sessions can be arranged for personal training. “I try to create fitness that does not body shame or stigmatize,” summarizes Scott.

“He makes it simple, straightforward, and understands when you’ve had a bad day or week,” ,” says Devi Seward, a satisfied client. “He’s positive and works with you to help you help yourself. I cannot recommend Alliance Athletics enough! And AND he’ a super LGBTQIA+ ally. Couldn’t ask for more in a human being let alone a person trainer.”

It wasn’t that long ago that Scott made changes to his daily routines. “My daughter was about to be born, and I was not in the best shape,” he recalls. While his dad lifted weights with a focus on body building, Scott learned about power lifting, which includes a squat, a dead lift, and a bench press. “Powerlifting hits all major muscle groups. You can tailor it for a goal, such as being leaner, stronger, toned or building muscle.” He was excited about this efficient way to workout, getting great results and feeling better. “I didn’t have to do two hours of lifting.” He soon turned his garage into a gym and never looked back.

Scott walks his talk, or maybe you could say he lifts, too. He doesn’t just suggest you lift weights, he does it too. In fact, he participated in a competition that he had not done for two years. Scott was also attracted to power lifting competition over body building because judging is more objective. It’s about the amount of weight lifted, with no upper limit. Scott was pleased with his results. He squatted 230 kilograms (506 pounds), bench pressed 145 kilograms (319 pounds) and deadlifted 200 kilograms (440 pounds). “I’m 36 and this is the strongest I have ever been,” he says. Scott noted that people still compete into their 80s and 90s! Now that’s exciting.

Any time is a good time to invest in your health and wellness. “It takes about 12 weeks to see the benefit,” advises Scott when working on changes. To that end, Alliance Athletics is offering a three-month nutrition and strength coaching package. You will get a new program each week to support your shift in eating behaviors and habits. The strength training component is individualized based on your personal goals, available equipment and whether or not you have access to a gym. It’s all done remotely and can be managed through your phone. You’ll have the ability to ask questions and send videos. Scott will monitor your program and keep you on your path.

“The body is capable of amazing things,” says Scott. He will be checking in with you on your energy levels, how your clothes are fitting, how your workout recovery is doing. “Exercise is not a punishment,” he says adding, “Exercise should be fun, something you want to do.” The 12-week reboot is $249/month for 3 months. After that, clients can continue on a month-to-month basis. It is an option to sign up for nutrition and strength training separately.

Hopefully people know that using weights to improve strength and gain tone is for all people. Toning is done by building lean muscle and losing body fat, making the muscles more prevalent. Power lifting is appropriate for women. It helps with building bone density. Scott likes the real-world application of getting stronger, like being able to pick up your grandchildren. “It’s never too late to start,” encourages Scott. There is progression for everyone.

Remember that your body will appreciate a massage, too. Scott Drapeau Wellness has that covered for you, too. “After years of massages Scott helped relieve/relax my neck more than anyone prior,” says Dan Jones. “This is the best sports massage I have had in Olympia!”

Let Alliance Athletics support you on your all-round health plan. It’s a life changing gift.
