Each spring the Thurston County Bicycle Commuter Challenge (BCC) provides encouragement and motivation to try getting around by bicycle, with fun events and prizes.

Many people are either not working or working from home these days, so the BCC is adapting and encouraging people to get out on their bikes just for the health of it.

Outdoor exercise and fresh air are essential to our health and well-being. The Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order recognizes this, and allows walking and biking solo or with those living in quarantine together.

This April and May, join the BCC for our adapted events to make your biking adventures even more fun, and you could win a prize too!

April:

  • Bike Art Challenge –   For all ages! During the remainder of April, create an original piece of art, email us a picture of it, and we’ll enter you in a drawing to win a prize! Drawings held weekly on Fridays through May 1, at 3 p.m. For complete Bike Art Challenge rules, see: https://bcc.intercitytransit.com/events/2020-4-30-0
  • April Social Media Bike ChallengePost a picture or story of your bike ride(s) on your public Instagram, Twitter or Facebook account, and tag it with @bicyclecommuterchallenge (IG) #Thurstonbcc (Twitter) or Thurston County Bicycle Commuter Challenge (FB). Each week in April, we’ll enter submissions in a drawing to win a prize! If you’re not into social media, you can just email your picture or story to us at dgreen@intercitytransit.com. You must have a Thurston County mailing address to be entered in prize drawings.See: https://bcc.intercitytransit.com/events/2020-4-30

Make sure to maintain social distancing on your ride, keep it local, and ride extra cautiously to avoid injuries.

May: (May events will have their own dedicated web pages by late April)

  • May Bicycle Challenge – In May, the BCC website will record the rides that participants enter as  usual. There will be weekly prize drawings for all riders who enter their rides that week, like during the Winter BCC. All bike rides count, no  need to have a destination other than health and well being!
