Pacific Northwest pet supply retailer Mud Bay’s new curbside pickup service is part of an overall campaign of social distancing to keep customers safe while shopping.
Mud Bay customers can call their local store during operating hours to place an order and pay over the phone. Completed orders are delivered to customer’s cars that same day.
In-store shoppers will also notice some changes when they visit. Mud Bay staff carefully monitor the number of guests in each store and are asking customers to be patient if they’re asked to wait before entering. Outside every Mud Bay is a handwashing station for customers to use before they enter.
There are more changes inside the store. Scoops for bulk Mud Bay biscuits are carefully sanitized after every customer. Blue painter’s tape marks the distance customers should keep between other shoppers and staff. And signs remind all customers that social distancing guidelines should be followed.
There’s also enforced social distancing at the register, where customers are asked to put their purchases on the counter and then wait behind a six-foot blue line during the checkout process. It’s a change for pet supply store known for its friendly employees, but Mud Bay staff members are committed to offering the same level of service, just from a distance.

Mud Bay remains open as an essential business under Washington and Oregon stay-at-home orders. With over 3 out of 5 Washington and Oregon families owning pets, pet supply retailers provide a vital way to keep pets fed.
Due to the coronavirus, many shoppers experiencing significant delays with online orders. Mud Bay and other brick-and-mortar pet supply retailers offer Washington and Oregon residents a way to purchase necessary food for their dogs and cats. While state guidelines ask residents to stay at home, pet supply stores, like grocery stores, are considered exempt from these orders.
