The Evergreen State College will continue remote teaching and learning for the entirety of spring quarter, the college announced March 25.
“Given the continued uncertainty about the spread of the virus, our plan now is to deliver courses and programs remotely through the end of spring quarter,” said Evergreen President George Bridges. “We’re acquiring laptops which will soon be available for check-out by enrolled students who lack access to computers.”
Evergreen faculty and staff have been working over the past two weeks to shift to remote instruction and operations for spring quarter.
“Innovation and change is part of Evergreen’s DNA,” said Trevor Speller, dean of curriculum at the college. “Every quarter we offer classes that are unknown to the rest of higher education. Our faculty are creative and flexible, and can adapt quickly. Over evaluation week and spring break, they have been gearing up and retooling our curriculum.”
Key support services for students such as financial aid, academic advising and veterans services are available by phone, text, email and video conference.
“With the new Washington College Grant covering all or some tuition for many students, this is a chance for many to make progress toward or finish their college degree from home,” said Evergreen Director of Admissions Wade Arave. The college is accepting applications for summer and fall 2020 enrollment.
Current Evergreen students and faculty have been connecting over the spring break to plan ahead.
“I am not concerned about making the transition to remote learning,” said Mariah Guilfoil-Dovel, a senior starting her final quarter at Evergreen. “My 16-credit, spring-quarter class was already scheduled to be an online hybrid. Given the current circumstances, I am glad this next quarter will be online.”
