Alec Zimmerman and Lucas Alcala each scored twice for the Oly Town Artesians in a 9-6 win over the Oly-Pen Force on Saturday night at the Oly-Pen Sports Center. The win broke a Western Indoor Soccer League winless streak for the Artesians that stretched back to December 16, 2017. Oly Town allowed just two goals after the first quarter and Nate Boatright scored the game winner with 8:51 left in the fourth quarter.

It took a quarter to shake off the rust and chase away the butterflies for a young and inexperienced Oly Town roster with the Force scoring four times in the first 15 minutes. But Lucas Alcala scored the first goal for the Artesians at the 7:39 mark and Nico Cutlip gathered a high rebound off the boards to score with 2:49 left, and the first quarter came to an end with the Force up 4-2.

From that point on, the Force scored just two more times on Oly Town goalkeeper JJ Olson, once in the second quarter on a goal by Agustin Suarez to make it 5-3 and again in the third quarter when Alex Hernandez, the WISL’s 2016-2017 goals scored leader, completed his hat trick and gave the Force the lead, 6-5.

Joe DiCarlo and Alcala added goals in the second quarter to make it 5-4 at halftime and Alec Zimmerman tied the game at 5-5 with an early third quarter goal.

The Artesians then exploded in the fourth quarter for four goals. Zimmerman tied it again at 6-6 with just 15 seconds into the quarter and Boatright scored the game winner off a pass from Zimmerman with 8:51 left. Andreas Malunat scored an insurance goal with 4:04 left and Sebastian Lyons made it 9-6 with a goal against Oly-Pen’s sixth attacker with 58 seconds to go.

Eight of the Artesians played in their first WISL game including Zimmerman and Alcala. DiCarlo and Alcala just joined the team on Saturday after playing two games in the Cascade Conference men’s soccer playoffs for The Evergreen State College on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Artesians will travel north next Saturday to take on the Snohomish Skyhawks. First kick at the Snohomish Soccer Dome is set for 7:00 PM. Oly Town will open their home slate on Saturday, December 7th at The Pavilion at The Evergreen State College.
