Tree pruning work will be done near the Winged Victory monument on the Capitol Campus from September 6 through 8.
The Washington State Department of Enterprise Services has contracted with Cascade Tree Experts for the pruning effort, which aims to improve tree health and ensure public safety. The contractor will be working on the Blue Atlas cedar near the northwest corner of the Insurance Building.
The maintenance work may impact auto and pedestrian traffic on campus, including:
September 6: Cherry Lane will be closed from Sid Snyder to the Winged Victory monument crossroad, and the southern half of the Winged Victory circle will close for safe use of a large aerial lift. Adjacent sidewalks will -be closed. Parking stalls 1-14 on Cherry Lane will be reassigned for the day.
September 7 and 8: The southern half of the Winged Victory circle will close, as well as adjacent sidewalks. Parking stalls 1-5 on Cherry Lane will be reassigned for these days.
There will be noise from chainsaws and wood chippers during the work, which will take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the selected days.
Later this month, additional work to improve tree health will occur on:
- The Blue Atlas cedar northwest of the Winged Victory memorial.
- The Norway maple near the historic Sunken Garden.
