Centennial Elementary School and Olympia High School counselor Amanda Hall have been recognized by the state for their efforts in providing a safe and supportive learning environment.

The Washington State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (WSASCD) has awarded Centennial Elementary School with the 2016 “Safe School Award.” The annual award recognizes educators who contribute to providing a safe school where students learn in an environment that is “physically and emotionally safe for students and adults and serve as models for all educators across the state,” according to information released by the statewide organization.

“The mission of Centennial Elementary School is to provide a high quality educational experience, which results in students reaching their greatest potential,” according to the WSASCD award announcement. “Because their school has an intentional focus on creating a positive, safe learning environment, the students are learning how to be responsible and independent citizens who can recognize choices, think about consequences and base their words and actions on that information.”

WSASCD also recently announced that Hall has been named the winner of this year’s “Supported Students Award.” The award recognizes educators who contribute to providing a school environment where students have access to personalized learning and are supported by qualified, caring adults.

“Amanda Hall is a highly-skilled and supportive educator for all students, and an outstanding school counselor and leader at Olympia High School,” according to the award announcement. “Amanda was born with a unique gift; a special ability to connect and build trust with all students. She consistently nurtures students’ long-lasting personal and academic growth, and is committed to ensuring they graduate career and college ready.”

Founded in 1956, WSASCD is a community of educators committed to promoting promising practices to ensure that all students are safe, healthy, engaged, supported and challenged.
