Llamas, horses, dogs and more looking for new homes and available for adoption

On Sunday, August 3, during the new Rescue Pet Round Up event, adoptable llamas, horses, dogs and other pets will be on parade and looking for new loving homes.

“The fair has always been a showcase for animals that are loved and cared for and trained, so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to showcase the animals in our community that need to find that loving, caring home, said event organizer and Fair Board member Kathy Bailey. “What’s unique about the Rescue Pet Round Up event will be all of the large animals available for adoption. There are a lot of horse people and llama and alpaca people who come here to the fair, so this is probably the best opportunity all year that we have to showcase the large animals that need to find a new home.”

The Rescue Pet Round Up will feature different animals throughout the day on Sunday that are available for adoption. While fairgoers will not be able to take their new furry friend home with them from the fair, adoption applications will be accepted at the event.

Even more lovable and adoptable furry friends will be strutting their stuff at the fair on Sunday at the annual “Groom Squad” demonstration put on by the Thurston County 4-H dog club. Each year the 4-H youth demonstrate their dog grooming and handling skills by giving dogs from the Thurston County Humane Society some much-needed makeovers. The program successfully highlights these wonderful pets looking for new homes, and the Humane Society typically adopts out all of the Groom Squad dogs within 24 hours of the event.
