olympia airportGeneral aviation airports, including Olympia Regional Airport, received a boost from Gov. Jay Inslee when he declared June 2014 as General Aviation Appreciation Month in Washington.

In his proclamation, Inslee specifically recognized how general aviation airports enhance the state’s economy, transportation system and the lives of Washingtonians.

Washington is home to 134 public-use airports. The state’s aviation system supports 248,500 jobs, $15.3 billion in wages and $50.9 billion in economic activity annually.

“Washington state has a dynamic system of airports that year after year strengthen our economy and quality of life,” said Tristan Atkins, director of aviation for the Washington Dept. of Transportation. “I’m optimistic that Gov. Inslee’s proclamation will encourage people to visit some of our state’s unique and diverse airports in June.”

Community members and visitors from around the state will gather at Olympia Regional Airport on June 14 and 15 for the 16 annual Olympic Air Show, sponsored by the Olympic Flight Museum www.olympicairshow.com.

The governor’s proclamation was informed by the 2012 Washington Aviation Economic Impact study, completed by the Washington Dept. of Transportation’s Aviation Division. The proclamation highlights how general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing and other aviation activities contribute to Washington’s economic health and vitality.
