The laughter and ladybugs are in full swing this Thursday at the Thurston County Fair. Thursdays at the fair are all about getting two-for-one deals, including two daily specials—Kid’s Day and Buddy Day!

Thursday, August 1 is the return of Kid’s Day when kids 14 and under can purchase admission tickets for just $2 each. August 1 is also Buddy Day, when you can get two carnival ride armbands for $24 if you and a buddy are both present at the time of purchase (no advance purchase available for Buddy Day special). The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 1.

Thursday, August 1 is also the start of the Dessert of the Day contests, kicking off with the deliciously decadent Chocolate Cake Contest. All chocolate varieties are welcome … and encouraged! Bring your chocolate cake entry to the Thurston Expo Center between noon and 2 p.m. and get free admission to the fair for the day. All entries must include the recipe with contestant’s name, address, and phone number. Check the 2013 Exhibitor’s Guide for all of the Dessert of the Day contest rules at www.co.thurston.wa.us/fair/exhibitor_guide.htm.

Thursday, August 1 is packed full of activities and entertainment for the whole family. More than 50 events, contests and performances are scheduled, including the opening of the Savor South Sound tasting event with five cideries on tap, the Live & Local concert series with Sour Owl, plus dancing, music, art, animals, and much more.
