LACEY, WA, January 22, 2013: The public is invited to participate in the second of a series of planning sessions to enhance Lacey’s Woodland District, a mixed-use sub-area of the city’s central business district, on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Lacey City Hall Council Chambers, 420 College Street SE.
In partnership with the Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC), Lacey is developing a strategic plan for the district—bordered by Interstate 5, College Street, Lacey Boulevard, and the Chehalis Western Trail—to create a vibrant urban core featuring a mix of residential, office, business, recreation, and service uses. Recent consolidation of state agencies in response to the economic downturn has resulted in nearly 240,000 square-feet of vacant office space in the district. While this has had a negative impact, it also offers an opportunity to diversify the district’s employment base.
The workshop will be an interactive presentation which will utilize hand-held instant polling equipment to formulate concepts, establish preferences, and refine design elements. The data gathered will inform the Woodland District Steering Committee and policy-makers on current strategic planning efforts, including concepts that can be successfully implemented immediately as well as broader actions that can be incorporated into land use planning element updates to Lacey’s overall comprehensive plan.
