Hamlet

Animal Fire Theatre is proud to announce that our 2012 Priest Point Park production will be Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Often cited as the most influential piece of literature in the English language, Hamlet is the crown jewel of the Shakespearian cannon. The story is both a revenge tragedy and an infinitely complex meditation on life, death, and humanity. We invite you to see the piece that people have been fascinated with over 400 years, as we present a fast, raw, and physically intense staging of the greatest play ever written, in the beautiful setting of Priest Point Park. All performances will be free to the public.
Directed by Austen Anderson, performances are scheduled to run for three weekends. The dates are Thursdays through Sundays, July 19,20,21,22,26,27,28,29, and August 2,3,4, and 5. All performances will be at 7:00 P.M. The location will be the same as the last 2 years, across the parking lot from the Playground at Priest Point Park.
Animal Fire Theatre is a fierce, young company, developed by Austen Anderson, whose mission is the staging of classical texts in rough, energetic, and modern ways. Comprised of young passionate artists, Animal Fire Theatre explores the breadth of human instinct and impulses in order deeply explore self and character. To find these impulses AFT members employ a number of non-traditional rehearsal methods to heighten their physical and emotional awareness, including an exercise where each actor embodies, portrays, and interacts with the other actors as an animal in order to connect to their characters motivations. This wild method of rehearsal often draws curious park-goers to investigate the source of the strange growls, howls, barks, grunts, and roars emanating from our rehearsal meadow. Yet audience and actor agree, the process creates a powerful energy that makes each AFT production captivating and memorable.
