Lacey Fire District 3 has hired Prothmam Company out of Seattle to do its search for a new Lacey Fire Chief. It’s the same company which is doing the search for the new Lacey City Manager. Representatives of the firm have been doing interviews with the fire commissioners and staff. The timeline to have a new fire chief on board is mid-September.

Ruddell Road will be a difficult drive for the new month, as the City of Lacey is installing sewer mains and a lift station near 37th Avenue. Traffic will be open but with restrictions. Les Russell Construction of Orting is doing the million dollar project.

The Lavieen Rose is in the Port of Olympia to load logs for Japan. The ship is owned by Weyerhaeuser and will carry 5.7 million board feet when fully loaded.

For several years, Sixth Avenue in Lacey has seen significant vacancy rates for business. Now, it looks like their is some movement. Rumor has it that a coffee shop will open on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Golf Club, in the Columbia Plaza. Some say it will Batdorf and Bronson’s first move into Lacey.
