Class Description: Join us for an afternoon of wool. Come learn how to use hand cards, a drum carder, and wool combs — and learn how each preparation can create a different kind of yarn! We’ll start by visiting with a local sheep shearer, talk a little bit about the washing process, and then work with different tools for carding, combing, and blending fiber. We’ll also talk about different animal fibers and breeds, and what to look for in a good fleece.

Whether you’re a budding spinner trying your hand at your own fleece preparation, or a knitter curious about how that sheep’s coat becomes the yarn you’re used to, you’ll have the opportunity for hands on learning in this workshop. At the end of the class, you’ll be able to take home prepared fiber that you can use for spinning or needle felting, or simply admiring. Bring your curiosity and your fiber knowledge — my goal is to cultivate a community where we can all learn from each other!
