The South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Theatre Collective presents Single Black Female by Lisa B. Johnson at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts Black Box from February 20 to March 1, 2026.
Directed by SPSCC alumna Raessa Patterson, the production explores the lives of two close friends—successful, single Black women—as they navigate love, identity, expectations, and the sometimes‑absurd realities of modern womanhood. Through quick character shifts and sharp comedic perspectives, the actors bring to life an array of personalities and experiences that shape the women’s world.
The cast includes ShaVanety Jones and Teresita Brimms. Supporting the production is an entirely SPSCC student‑led crew, including Stage Manager Bethany Adams; Assistant Stage Manager Tyler Fuller; and crew members Finn Johnston, Kinsley Satterfield, Kaelie Tobias, and Tyler Wu.
A graduate of SPSCC Performing Arts Program, Patterson will make her directorial debut with Single Black Female. “I’m thrilled to work with an incredibly talented cast and crew to share a powerful story of single affluent Black females and their struggles to find worthy life partners in our society,” she shared. “For the first time in SPSCC history, the production will feature an arena-style (in-the-round) seating configuration, which I hope will introduce a heightened sense of intimacy and connection with the audience.”
Admission is a suggested $12 donation at the door. SPSCC students, staff, and faculty are free. More information, including performance dates and times, is available on the college’s Arts & Entertainment Calendar.
