Project Poppyseed, founded by SMU nursing faculty Dr. Nikki Berry, is a non-profit organization which raises awareness, conducts research, and provides support and education about perinatal loss, grief, and bereavement. Despite 2.4 million pregnancies ending in loss each year, parents’ grief is often disenfranchised and silenced. Rather than receiving social support so desperately needed, parents grieve in silence.

The Relay in Remembrance is Project Poppyseed’s first annual event to raise awareness and support for those experiencing perinatal loss. The Relay is an 8-hour family and community event participants will walk laps around the SMU track Sunday, September 26th from 8:00AM-4:00PM.

The Relay in Remembrance is a community building event meant to support and bring people together. Throughout the day there will be fun activities for kids, music, speakers, free food, and camaraderie. Drop in with your family for fun, food, and help break the silence of perinatal loss.

Proceeds from the event will be used to host “I Remember,” Project Poppyseed’s memorial event to honor and give a voice to parents’ grief. I Remember will be held October 9, 2021.
