The need for school supplies, pencils, markers, paper, notebooks, and calculators is not going away. Students will need essential supplies wherever and however school happens this fall, and there are many families who cannot afford to buy them.
The Little Red Schoolhouse (LRS) Project and KXXO 96.1 radio have been collecting school supplies for over 25 years. Usually KXXO does a live radio day from the street and takes donations. For safety reasons, KXXO can’t do that this year. Instead, the fundraiser will be live on-the-air on 96.1 FM and livestreamed on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/mixx96.1) Friday, August 14 6am-6pm.
The livestream coordinated by Cabin Lights Studios (https://cabinlightstudios.com/) will add a new dimension to the fund drive, allowing participants to hear what’s going on and see what everyone is doing, with live bands and a running total displayed throughout the day.
Secure donations may be made by phone (360-943-9696 or 943-9937) August 14 or online anytime at www.kxxo.com/lrs. 100% of what is received in donations will go to the Little Red Schoolhouse Project (minus any transaction fees). Heritage Bank will match the first $2500 donated. Althauser Rayan Abbarno and Capital Heating and Cooling will match further donations.
There will also be a safe and secure outdoor drive-up donation box for change, cash and checks courtesy of Zeigler’s Welding (https://www.zeiglerswelding.com/). 100% or what is raised will go directly to buy supplies for kids “returning to learning.” The donation box will be under the KXXO Mixx 96.1 tent outside their studios at State and Washington Streets in downtown Olympia.
