Come celebrate the tideflats! The Hama Hama Oyster Rama returns April 18th & 19th at the oyster farm in Lilliwaup, about an hour’s drive from Olympia. There will be live music, kid’s activities, delicious food and drink, tideflat tours, u-pick oysters and clams, contests, ecological science fair, and more!
The party is from Noon to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday, April 18th and 19th.
Bands include Port Townsend’s Grace Love, Acapulco Lips and Jaws of Brooklyn from Seattle, Bete Grise, Lotion, and Esoterasaurus from the Olympic Peninsula, and The Boom and Bust from Pinedale, Wyoming. Music producer Quilcene Lantern describes the lineup as an eclectic mix of bands from near and far, including country western singer songwriters, mavens of R&B/soul, local garage bands, and post-punk surf rockers.
Ecological groups with booths at the Oyster Rama include Washington Sea Grant, Port Townsend Marine Science Center, Pacific Shellfish Institute, Puget Sound Restoration Fund, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, and more. Come learn about the ecology of the salish sea, and about how shellfish farms operate within that ecosystem.
There will be cooking demos Saturday, an intertidal oyster sports competition Sunday, plus Oyster Trivia and an Oyster Derby (who can find the biggest oyster?) both days.
The event is a fundraiser for the Hood Canal Education Foundation and the Olympia Regional Learning Academy, among other charities. Admission is free for kids 15 and under. Tickets for anybody over the age of 16 are $45 per day, with a limited number of discounted weekend passes available.
