Is Your Race Canceled?  Join Going the Distance to Meet Your Athletic Goals in June

Many of our favorites runs, races and outdoor challenges are canceled this summer, including the decades long Two-County Double Metric Century Ride. Hosted by Providence Regional Cancer Center, Capital Bicycling Club and The Mayday Foundation, Going the Distance is an answer to any athletes’ need for competition.

Set a goal, challenge your friends and family to join you and get ready to cycle, run, hike, swim or walk throughout June. Going the Distance is a month-long virtual event you can accomplish from anywhere, even on a treadmill or stationary bike.

After committing to a minimum donation of $10, you can register and set your June athletic goal. And the best part is that all funds stay in our community! Proceeds benefit the Sigrid Hardy Memorial Scholarship fund, managed by The Mayday Foundation. These dollars help local high school graduates, whose families have been impacted by cancer, pay for college.

“Cancer is the one thing I will always wince at the name of. It has broken hearts and shattered dreams more than imaginable. I have yet to lose hope because the one thing that was supposed to take my grandpa and mom has yet to do so,” said one of the 2020 Sigrid Hardy Memorial Scholarship recipients.

It’s easy to join us for the (new!) Going The Distance virtual event:

  1. Register! The first 20 people to register earn a cool shirt. Click here to make it happen.
  2. Set goals! What distance do you want to cycle, run, hike, swim or walk in June?
  3. Donate!  A small $10 minimum donation gets you in the event. Our suggested fundraising goal is $100 per person.
  4. Share!  Tell your friends and family about your goal or challenge them to join you.

The Mayday Foundation provides immediate, practical financial support to local families coping with cancer while raising kids at home.  The non-profit organization covers household expenses like rent, utilities, gas and groceries for families who live or receive treatment in Thurston, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties.
